PUBLIC NOTICE is given to the electors of Coast Mountains Board of Education School District 82 that a Trustee By-election will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 to elect one trustee to represent the Board of Education of School District 82 (Coast Mountains) for the period of April 2021 to November 2022 as follows:
Trustee (one) – Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) (the City of Terrace, northwest area of Kitimat-Stikine Regional District including New Remo, Kalum Lake Drive and Rosswood)
NOMINATIONS FOR QUALIFIED CANDIDATES: Will be received by the Chief Election Officer or a designated person between 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 19 and 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021 (excluding weekends) at the School District’s Board of Education Office located at 3211 Kenney Street (Building A), Terrace. Nomination documents may be delivered by hand, mail, email or other delivery service. Originals of the emailed nomination documents must be received by the Chief Election Officer by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2021.
NOMINATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER 4:00 P.M. FRIDAY, JANUARY 29, 2021
NOMINATION DOCUMENTS: Are available by visiting the Coast Mountains School District website at www.cmsd.bc.ca/2021-school-trustee-by-election or by contacting Carole Gagnon, Executive Assistant at the Board of Education Office at (250) 638-4401 or carole.gagnon@cmsd.bc.ca.
QUALIFICATIONS: A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
- Canadian citizen;
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day March 6, 2021;
- resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed;
- not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
CAMPAIGN PERIOD EXPENSE LIMITS: In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2021 School Trustee By-election, the following expense limits for candidates during the campaign period apply: Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) – $5,596.50
THIRD PARTY ADVERTISING LIMITS: In accordance with the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, for the 2021 School Trustee By-election, the following third party advertising limits apply: Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) – $750.00
