CMSD82 News Release – MGA Principal Appointment, Shylah Marshall – August 1, 2023  (PDF Format)

Coast Mountains School District 82 is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Shylah Marshall to the position of Principal at Majagaleehl Gali Aks Elementary School in Hazelton effective August 1, 2023.

Shylah is a Gitxsan educator, born and raised in the Hazeltons, who has fulfilled her dream to work in education and followed her goals of achieving higher education and returning home to teach.  She is a Gitxsan member who is active within their cultural system under the guidance of her grandmother.

Currently Shylah teaches a Grade 6/7 class at Majagaleehl Gali Aks Elementary School having worked with Coast Mountains School District since 2014 in various teaching roles at Kitwanga Elementary School, New Hazelton Elementary School, Hazelton Secondary School, and Majagaleehl Gali Aks Elementary School.

Shylah holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree from University of British Columbia, and a Master of Education Degree with a focus in Special Education from University of Northern British Columbia.  She is highly regarded by her colleagues as a respected educator devoted to creating a diverse and inclusive classroom to best suit learners, their needs and the rich culture in the Hazeltons.  Her enthusiasm and strong commitment to students will have a positive impact on Majagaleehl Gali Aks Elementary School.

Majagaleehl Gali Aks Elementary School forms an integral part of the community of Hazelton and Coast Mountains School District is most fortunate to have an educator of Shylah’s calibre ready and willing to assume the leadership role at this school.
