CMSD News Release - 2023-24 Leadership Staffing News, Kitwanga Elementary School (PDF format)

Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the following leadership staffing appointments for Kitwanga Elementary School effective August 15, 2023:

Phillip Barron
Currently the District Principal responsible for system wellness and educator retention, Phillip will also assume the role of Remote Principal for Kitwanga Elementary School for the 2023-24 school year.  With 30 years of teaching and leadership experiences throughout Coast Mountains School District, including most recently Principal at Skeena Middle School in Terrace, Phillip is known for his positive, caring nature and the high level of commitment and professionalism he brings to every situation.  Keeping learners at the centre, Phillip will work intentionally during the year with the school community, including the on-site Teaching Vice Principal, to provide an outstanding learning environment for the children of Kitwanga Elementary School.

Kassia Nameth
Joining Coast Mountains School District from Saskatchewan, Kassia Nameth has been appointed to Teaching Vice Principal at Kitwanga Elementary School.  Kassia holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina with a focus in K-5 Education.  Through her work with ‘Educating Youth in Engineering & Science’ (EYES), Kassia has extensive experience engaging elementary and middle level students in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) learning activities.  She is an advocate for mental health, recently facilitating programming with young athletes as part of Hockey Regina’s initiative ‘Beyond the Ice’.  Kassia enjoys the outdoors and is both an athlete and community coach, playing hockey and leading a ‘Learn to Skate’ program in her home community in Saskatchewan.  Kassia is very excited to be joining Kitwanga Elementary School in this leadership role and is looking forward to both learning from and working collaboratively with learners, families, staff, and community in the year ahead.
