The key dates for the 2021 School Trustee By-election is provided as follows:
- Start of the Nomination Period – 9:00 a.m., January 19, 2021
- End of Nomination Period – 4:00 p.m., January 29, 2021
- Declaration of Candidates – January 29, 2021 (immediately following the end of the Nomination Period)
- Candidate Nomination Withdrawal Deadline – 4:00 p.m., February 5, 2021
- End of Election Period – 12:00 midnight, February 5, 2021
- Start of Campaign Period – February 6, 2021
- Required Advance Voting Opportunities – February 24 & March 3, 2021
- General Voting Day – March 6, 2021
- Determination of Official Election Results – March 8, 2021
On December 21, 2020, the Board submitted a request to the BC Ministry of Education for a Ministerial Order to override the School District 82’s bylaw and the Local Government Act to allow mail-in ballots for all electors in the 2021 School Trustee By-election. On January 15, 2021, the Board was notified that BC’s Minister of Education had approved this request and signed Ministerial Order M033 under the School Act.
