BC school districts received a change to the School Calendar Regulations on August 13, 2021 from the Deputy Minister of Education sharing the minimum hours of instruction have been reduced by 5 hours for the 2021-2022 school year in consideration of the September 30 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as announced by the BC Government on August 3.  School districts have been asked to amend their 2021-2022 School Calendar to reflect this change and within 30 days submit to the Minister of Education and publish to their district website.

In light of this change and in accordance with the updated BC Calendar Regulations, the following amendments were made to the CMSD82 2021-2022 School Calendar in consultation with the District School Calendar Committee:

  • Thursday, September 30 – National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (statutory holiday – schools are not in session)
  • Days of instruction will change to 177 from 178 plus 6 non-instructional days and 1 administrative day for a total of 184 days in session for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • The Minutes of Instruction (minutes/day) will remain the same:  Elementary Schools 296 minutes/day and Middle/Secondary Schools 321 minutes/day based on the calculation of the prescribed “revised” minimum hours of instruction for the 2021-2022 school year (reduction of 5 hours) and the change in the days of instruction to 177 for the CMSD82 2021-2022 School Calendar.
