It is with a deep sense of loss and profound sadness, that I share the passing of school district employee, Steven (Steve) McPhillips on December 1, 2021 at his home in Terrace.
Steve joined the school district on September 8, 2009 in the position of Purchasing Agent. During his time, Steve was skilled at finding ways to purchase in such a way that was efficient and cost effective. He was relentless with vendors about getting the best possible deal for the school district.
Steve was a friend to many at the School Board Office Complex. While a very private person, Steve cared deeply about us all. We were his family. When we talk about Steve, we think of things like:
- Always having treats in his office for kids and the office staff.
- He loved animals and kids, especially loved it when a baby came into the office.
- He was caring, generous and had a big, kind heart.
- His love of music including his favourite bands being Tool and Van Halen.
- His driving!
I am confident that when Steve passed, he knew we loved him, because we told him. Steve was cared for by some very selfless people over the past while and I would like to acknowledge the “team” work exhibited by all that played a role in that support. You are, in keeping with Steve’s love of music, rock stars.
Steve will be dearly missed by all, expressly by the many people who had the privilege to know him personally.
Sincerely,
Janet Meyer
Superintendent of Schools
