CMSD82 News Release – Vice Principal Appointment, Suwilaawks Community School, August 1, 2022  (PDF Format)


The Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Joel Ewald to the position of Vice Principal of Suwilaawks Community School effective August 1, 2022.

Joel joined the School District on September 1, 2019, in a Primary Classroom Teacher position at Suwilaawks Community School and has since been part of the school’s teaching staff.  He was born and raised in the Northwest, with a strong sense of place and tie to local landscapes, people and cultures.

He holds a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Northern B.C., a Bachelor of Science Degree (Physical Geography) from the University of the Fraser Valley and an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems from the Vancouver Island University.  Joel will be enrolling in a Master’s of Education program as a requirement of the Vice Principal position.

Joel has demonstrated passion in his profession, an understanding and respect for local diverse cultures, history and the importance of building positive relationships with students, staff and the community.  He has impacted the lives of many learners at Suwilaawks Community School in a positive way, both inside and outside the classroom, as an outstanding teacher and through his commitment to success for all learners.

He will continue to serve Suwilaawks Community School well with his knowledge and deep commitment to their students and families.

We extend our congratulations to Joel on his appointment and we wish him every success in his new leadership position.
