Dear CMSD82 Parents & Guardians,
As you may know, on July 29 the Ministry of Education announced that schools across the province will enrol students at Stage 2 of B.C.’s Education Restart Plan. Students will be organized in learning groups or cohorts within schools. The goal of the cohort model is to attempt to minimize the number of contacts any child or adult will have in the school. Elementary school groups and middle school groups will have cohorts up to 60 people while secondary can have up to 120 people per cohort.
There may be some confusion in the general public as to what educational options are available to parents. The remote learning option that was available in spring 2020 is no longer an option for Stage 2 (September 2020). Our goal is to maximize in-class instruction.
We offer the above graphic that outlines the educational options for parents and guardians. These options have been available choices to parents and guardians for several years. A parent or guardian has the choice to send their child to their neighbourhood school, enrol their child in a distributed (distance) learning program (Coast Mountains School District offers Kindergarten to Grade 12), or homeschool their child. The graphic outlines these choices and provides links for information related to each option (click on the link to enlarge the graphic).
In the very near future, your child’s school will be reaching out to you to confirm that your child will be returning to school in September. We recognize that not everyone is prepared to make that decision at this time, given that there is not a clear picture of what each individual school will look like. We understand that. Please take the time you need to ensure that you make a decision that is best for your child and your family. If you do know now, please feel free to reach out to your school administration, via email, and communicate your plan with them. Access the following link for your school administrator’s email address.
If you have any questions related to the options, please feel free to use the following designated school district email address for COVID-19 related issues:
Our goal is to design Stage 2 school plans that will help you feel confident in the safety measures provided to your child returning to school.
Families and communities can be further assured that Principals, Vice Principals, and District Staff are working on designing unique Stage 2 plans for each of our schools in Coast Mountains School District. We will be sharing our plans with you on or before August 26 via the school district’s website.
Enjoy what is left of summer and know that we are working to ensure a safe and positive start to the 2020-2021 school year.
Sincerely yours,
Janet Meyer
Superintendent of Schools
