Letter to CMSD82 Staff from Acting Superintendent of Schools – June 5, 2020  (PDF format)

As we complete our first week of voluntary part-time return to school, Stage 3 of BC’s K-12 Education Restart Plan, I wish to extend a big THANK YOU to every staff member for your hard work and stepping up to plate during these challenging times. Together we did it!

Special mention to our administrators, teachers and support staff for your tireless efforts in bringing Stage 3 to life within Coast Mountains School District 82. The complexities and uniqueness of our school district paired with the expectations of the Ministry of Education made for some great creative thinking and problem-solving skills by staff.

School staff were delighted to welcome students back into our schools this week. I share for your interest our student attendance district wide for June 1 to 4:

Monday, June 1 – 397 students in attendance – district wide 9.6%
Tuesday, June 2 – 424 students in attendance – district wide 10.3%
Wednesday, June 3 – 196 students in attendance – district wide 4.7%
Thursday, June 4 – 328 students in attendance – district wide 8%
Friday, June 5 – data unavailable until 4:30 p.m.

On a separate note and prior to the COVID-19 crisis (pre-March 2020), we were working on a Work Environment Survey based on one of the recommendations outlined within the Independent Consultant’s Report to the Board of Education. The Work Environment Survey is now ready and will be shared with all staff via their CMSD82 email address next Tuesday, June 9. The email will be sent by “” on behalf of BC Stats who are managing the anonymous and confidential survey. The email subject line will read “Invitation: 2020 Work Environment Survey”.

Your participation in this survey is extremely important. You will be offered time during your regular work day to complete this survey. The intent of the survey is not related to COVID-19, except for the two questions at the end of the survey about COVID-19. CMSD82 staff are asked not to consider COVID-19 experiences when contemplating their responses to the survey.

Coast Mountain Teachers’ Federation and the Canadian Union for Public Employees, Local 2052 were both involved in the development of the survey and have fully endorsed the completion of the survey by their members.

Have a great weekend and a well-deserved break!

Sincerely yours,

Janet Meyer
Acting Superintendent of Schools
