CMSD82 News Release – Tina McDonald, District VP Early Learning & Child Care Appointment

The Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Tina McDonald to the new role of District Vice Principal Early Learning & Child Care effective August 1, 2022 for the 2022-2023 school year.

Through the expanded focus of the B.C. Government’s Early Learning Framework on programming for children from infancy to eight years of age (previously five years of age), Coast Mountains School District supports this provincial direction with the addition of the District Vice Principal Early Learning & Child Care role for the upcoming school year.  The Framework provides a vision for respectfully living and learning together and creates a common language and increased understanding of the vital importance of early learning for all young children in School District 82, from our StrongStart BC programs to our primary classrooms.

The assignment of the District Vice Principal Early Learning & Child Care will act to lead and support Early Learning and Child Care projects and initiatives in School District 82.  In her new role, Tina will be located at the School District’s Board of Education Office reporting to the Director of Instruction, Graduation and Innovation.

Tina brings a wealth of experience to her role with 27 years in the education sector, 14 of which have been in administration including a vast portfolio of experience working in schools.  She has served in diverse roles (principal, vice principal, teacher) in rural and urban communities (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Peace River and Grande Prairie, Alberta).  She most recently held the position of Principal at Annunciation School in Prince Rupert.  Tina has taught in elementary, middle and senior high school settings, and had the opportunity to work as an administrator in all three settings in Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Kindergarten to Grades 8/9 settings.

Tina holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Yorkville University, a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Laurentian University.  She is fluent in English and French having taught French Immersion as part of her teaching portfolio and she holds an Early Learning Certification.

We are fortunate to have an educator of Tina’s calibre stepping into this important role that will help guide the School District in all aspects of Early Learning education.

Sincerely yours,

Janet Meyer
Superintendent of Schools
