Dear Parents, Caregivers, Staff and Community Members,

We hope on this New Year’s Day, that despite the Omicron news, that you have found the opportunity to celebrate the new year safely, in your own ways with family and friends.  I’d like to take this opportunity to provide clarity for you on the Coast Mountains School District 82 definition of an essential service worker.

Please be advised that the definition of an essential service worker for School District 82 includes the following:

  1. Healthcare Providers
  2. Daycare Workers
  3. Employees of Coast Mountains School District 82

It is important to note that we do not yet know our own availability of staff to provide any form of learning activities for the period of January 4 to 7, when schools will be open for students with diverse needs, vulnerable students, and students of essential service workers.  The purpose of the week will be for district and school staff to review and prepare to welcome students back on January 10 with renewed Health and Safety protocols as outlined by the BCCDC, Provincial Health Authority and Ministry of Education.  All of our staff will be engaged in this work, so we will only be able to provide “supervision” for the specific group of children outlined above.

A reminder that parents and caregivers will be expected to notify their School Principal, in advance, via email prior to January 4 if their child falls in one of the three categories and the parent or caregiver wishes to send their child to school.   It is critical that you communicate with your School Principal prior to your child attending.

Please find a link to the School Principal Email Address Information for the convenience of parents and caregivers:

We recognize this is yet another disruption to your child’s learning and your family’s routines.  We all want the pandemic to end, so that we can return to life as normal and we can all move forward.

Thank you again for your patience as we work through these new Orders and as we plan for the continued uncertainty of Omicron.  Once again, Coast Mountains School District remains committed to providing a safe and caring environment for all students and staff.

Best wishes to you and your family for a Happy New Year!

Sincerely yours,

Janet Meyer, Superintendent of Schools
