CMSD82 Internal Release – Ceremony of Remembrance, Bonnie Shaw – Feb. 10, 2018

It is with heartfelt sadness that we inform employees of the passing of school district retiree, Bonnie Shaw on February 3, 2018. Bonnie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after bravely fighting health challenges for many years.

Bonnie originally joined the school district in January 1965 in a temporary teaching assignment at Cassie Hall Elementary School followed by teaching assignments at E.T. Kenney Primary School. After assuming a position with a local realtor company in June 1975, Bonnie returned to the school district as a part-time teacher at Skeena Junior Secondary School in October 1979. Upon her retirement in June 2007, Bonnie held a part-time Grade 7 teaching assignment at Uplands Elementary School. During her tenure with the school district, Bonnie held several teaching positions with her prime assignments teaching English as a Second Language or English with a keen interest in Speech Arts and Drama instruction.

Bonnie was much loved by her students and is still fondly referred to as “Mama Shaw” by one of her first classes of English Second Language students. She worked tirelessly to ensure that all students felt successful and included.

A Ceremony in Remembrance for Bonnie will be held at MacKay’s Funeral Home at 4626 Davis Avenue in Terrace on Saturday, February 10 at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow the ceremony. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Our sincerest condolences and prayers are extended to Bonnie’s companion, Denis, and to her family. Their sorrow is shared by Bonnie’s many friends within Coast Mountains School District.
