CMSD82 News Release – Celebration of Life, Lisa MacBean – Nov. 1, 2015
(PDF Bulletin Format)

It is with heartfelt sadness that we inform employees of the passing of school district employee, Lisa MacBean on September 24, 2015. Lisa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.

A long-term employee, Lisa originally joined the school district as Principal at Bob Quinn School in 1987, formerly part of our school district. Lisa transferred to the position of Teacher at Thornhill Elementary School on September 1, 1987, a position she held until her passing.

Lisa was much loved by her students and the school faculty. Her leadership, inspiration, excellent work as a teacher and dedication contributed significantly to student achievement and success. As a long-time resident and respected teacher, Lisa played a significant role in the lives of many students in the Thornhill community. An environmentalist to her core, Lisa implemented the recycling program and the annual environmental fair at Thornhill Elementary School, and further engaged students in the learnings of composting by maintaining a worm farm in her classroom.

Lisa was a consummate professional, a social justice advocate and a dedicated union member having held many positions with the Terrace District Teacher’s Union during her lengthy teaching career. She was instrumental in helping develop collective agreement provisions that remain in effect today.

Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences go out to Lisa’s family and friends. Their sadness and loss is shared by her many friends and colleagues of Thornhill Elementary School and the school district family.

Lisa will be dearly missed by all, especially by those people who had the privilege to know her personally.

A Celebration of Life for Lisa will be held on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Terrace located 4907 Lazelle Avenue.
