Please be informed that school district officials were alerted to a concerning message posted on the Facebook Terrace Buy & Sell at 3:00 p.m. today, May 12.  We have been aware that the messages have been posted from both the Terrace and Kitimat communities.

Kitimat and Terrace RCMP, Safer Schools Together (the school district’s provincial student safety experts), school district personnel and school administration are continuing their investigation.  The RCMP and Safer Schools Together have determined this is a low-level risk event.

RCMP presence will be in place at both Skeena Middle School and Mount Elizabeth Middle/Secondary School tomorrow, May 13.  The safety and well-being of all our students and staff is paramount and events of this nature are taken very seriously.

Coast Mountains School District in conjunction with Safer Schools Together have requested that the RCMP pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law… Continue reading


CMSD82 New Release – Skeena Middle School Incidents, May 7 & 10, 2019


Please be informed of two related incidents that occurred at Skeena Middle School on May 7 and May 10, 2019.

School officials were alerted on May 7 to a message of concern written on a mirror located in a washroom at Skeena Middle School. School administration and the school district immediately contacted the RCMP and Safer Schools Together to ensure all protocols and processes were followed. An investigation was initiated by the RCMP in consultation with Safer Schools Together (our provincial student safety experts) who determined this was a low-level risk event. RCMP presence was put in place at the Skeena Middle School on May 8, 9 and 10 as an added precaution.

CMSD82 News Release – Transition Director of HR Retirement & Appointment of New Director of HR – May 7, 2019


I am writing to you today in follow up to the announcement of December 20, 2018 regarding the impending retirement of Cam MacKay, Director of Human Resources effective August 31, 2019.

We are saddened to share that today will be Cam’s last working day with the school district prior to his official retirement date of August 31.  Cam plans to utilize outstanding vacation time as he transitions into a well-deserved retirement.

As previously shared, it is difficult if not impossible to sum up Cam’s achievements over the past 33 years of dedicated service. CMSD82 News Release – Jocelynn Drew, Bear Valley School Principal Appointment  (PDF Format)


The Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the leadership staffing appointment of Jocelynn Drew to the permanent position of Principal at Bear Valley School.

Currently the Teacher in Charge at Bear Valley School, Jocelynn will assume the permanent principalship position effective May 6, 2019.

A long-term employee, Jocelynn is an experienced and knowledgeable educator who has taught at both the elementary and secondary levels during her tenure with the school district in the community of Stewart. She is a team player and a strong advocate for the success of all learners.

On April 25, 2019, the Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District 82 announced leadership staffing appointments for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Board of Education supports the role and responsibility of the Superintendent of Schools and the District Leadership Team to make staffing decisions in the best interests of those served and employed in our school district.  The appointments and assignments of Principals and Vice Principals is an important educational function.
