The following E-Alert was issued Saturday evening, August 30, 2014 by the British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA):
Negotiations Break Down
Late this afternoon mediator Vince Ready stepped away from assisting with negotiations between the BCTF and BCPSEA saying that there was still too much distance between the parties to reach agreement.
Given this development it is highly unlikely that schools will open on Sept. 2.
BCSTA President Teresa Rezansoff stated, “I am profoundly disappointed that a deal could not be reached. I was hoping that at the very least students could return to school while talks continued.”
BCSTA bargaining representatives Alan Chell and Silas White remain ready to return to the table when if parties agree to resume negotiations.
BCSTA will keep you informed as events unfold.
