CMSD82 News Release – Vincent Dikaitis, Hazelton Secondary School Principal Appointment – August 1, 2018  (PDF Format Bulletin)

 

The Board of Education for Coast Mountains School District is pleased to announce the leadership staffing appointment of Vincent Dikaitis to the position of Principal at Hazelton Secondary School effective August 1, 2018.

An experienced and respected educator, Vincent currently serves as the Principal at Chief T’Selehye School in Fort Good Hope in the Northwest Territories (Sahtu District Education Council). He has worked at all levels of education in rural, remote, urban and Indigenous school settings within Alberta and the Northwest Territories, and deeply understands the diverse cultural backgrounds and unique educational needs of urban and rural learners.

Vincent’s academic background includes a Master of Education in school administration from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Aurora College, Fort Smith. He has recently commenced work on his Doctorate of Philosophy with the focus on reforming educational programming in Rural and First Nations communities.

He brings a wealth of wide-range knowledge to Hazelton Secondary School with over 20 years’ experience having served the needs of many adolescents and adults as a Counselor, Family Facilitator, Wilderness Counselor, High School/Junior High Teacher, University Instructor, Principal and Director of Education while ensuring a holistic and culturally sensitive, student-centred approach throughout his career. Respected as an effective team builder, communicator and a strong advocate for the success of all learners, Vincent will bring great insight and commitment to making a continued positive difference for students at Hazelton Secondary School.

Vincent is looking forward to returning to the Hazelton community having worked for the Gitxsan First Nations Child and Family Services for five years as a Program Coordinator and Family Facilitator in the initial stage of his career.

Coast Mountains School District is most fortunate to have an educator of Vincent’s calibre joining the leadership and instructional team at Hazelton Secondary School.
