CMSD82 Internal News Release – Acknowledging the Loss of an Amazing Colleague, Dave Cater  (PDF Format)

It is with heartfelt sadness that we inform employees of the passing of school district retiree, Dave Cater on January 30, 2019. Dave passed away peacefully surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Dave joined the school district in September 1981 in a teaching assignment at Kitwanga Elementary Secondary School followed by teaching assignments at South Hazelton Elementary School. In 1988, Dave assumed a position at Uplands Elementary in Terrace, a position he held until his retirement in 2014. Upon his retirement, Dave became a Teacher on Call and enjoyed his time going from school to school in Terrace filling in leaves for colleagues.

During his tenure with the school district, Dave was very active in the extracurricular activities, in particular coaching of athletic teams. He was highly respected by students and colleagues alike for his love of teaching and the many hours of coaching and extracurricular advocacy for all students in the district.

Dave was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. Through the years he spent much of his off-time running, paddling, participating in team sports, fishing, skiing, and hiking with family as well as helping out community and regional outdoor pursuits for the good of others.

A Memorial Service for Dave will be held later in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave’s memory to My Mountain Co-op.

Our sincerest condolences and prayers are extended to his wife Marsha, daughters Robyn and Marlee and their extended family. Their sorrow is shared by Dave’s many friends within Coast Mountains School District and the Terrace community.
