PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY given to the electors of Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) of the Coast Mountains Board of Education School District 82 that a By-election by voting is necessary to elect one Trustee for Trustee Electoral Area 2 for the period of April 2021 to November 2022, and that the persons nominated as candidates and for whom the votes will be received are:

SAFETY MEASURES
Coast Mountains School District 82 is committed to delivering a safe and physically distanced by-election during the COVID-19 pandemic. Following Public Health, Elections BC, WorkSafeBC and the City of Terrace Sportsplex directives, School District 82’s safety plan for the advanced voting and general voting days ensures the by-election will be safe for voters, candidates and election staff. All voting days will have protective measures in place including:
- physical distancing
- capacity limits
- plexiglass protective barriers
- hand sanitizing stations will be provided
- voters will be asked to sanitize their hands before and after voting
- election officials will wear masks or face-visors
- there will be frequent cleaning of voting stations and high-touch surfaces
- pencils/pens will be provided for voting and will be sanitized between use
- electors will be required to wear masks when voting
- those who are ill or self-isolating will be asked not to visit a voting place (mail ballot voting is available as shared below)
VOTING DATES AND LOCATIONS
GENERAL VOTING will be open to qualified electors of Trustee Electoral Area 2 (Terrace) of Coast Mountains Board of Education School District 82 on:
Saturday, March 6, 2021
between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
at the Terrace Sportsplex Multipurpose Room, 3320 Kalum Street, Terrace
ADVANCE VOTING will be available to qualified electors as follows:
Wednesday, February 24, 2021 and Wednesday, March 3, 2021 between the hours of
8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Terrace Sportsplex Multipurpose Room,
3320 Kalum Street, Terrace.
SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITIES will not be available due to
the COVID-19 pandemic.
ELECTOR REGISTRATION
You will be required to register at the time of voting by completing the required Resident Elector application form available at the voting place. The application form is also available here, should you wish to complete and have available at the time of voting.
To register you must meet the following qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day
- Canadian citizen
- resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
- resident of OR registered owner of real property in the electoral area for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration, and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law
To register, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.
To register, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners.
MAIL BALLOT VOTING
Mail ballot voting will be available for all qualified electors. Mail ballot information is available on the school district’s website at www.cmsd.bc.ca/mail-ballot-voting/ or by contacting Carole Gagnon, Executive Assistant at the Board of Education Office at (250) 638-4401 or by email at carole.gagnon@cmsd.bc.ca.
Requests for mail ballot packages must be received before 4:00 p.m. March 4, 2021. Completed ballots can be returned by mail, dropped off at a voting venue on advanced voting days and general voting day, or dropped off at the Board of Education Office at 3211 Kenney Street, Building A, during regular business hours before 4:00 p.m. March 5, 2021. Electors with accessibility needs can call (250) 638-4401 for assistance.
Due to the potential for postal delays, residents are encouraged to drop off their ballots at the Board of Education Office or one of the voting venues on advanced voting or general voting days, if possible.
Mail ballot voting packages will available commencing on February 17, 2021. To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
