CMSD82 Internal News Release – Dave Bartley Retirement – Director of Instruction, Learner Support

It is with mixed emotions that we share the retirement of Dave Bartley, Director of Instruction for Learner Support effective August 31, 2017. Though we are in full support of his decision to assume a well-deserved retirement and to spend time with his family, Dave’s effective leadership and expertise will be sadly missed by all within the school district including the many connections and relationships he has forged with all staff.

Dave joined the school district in September 1989 as a Learning Assistance Teacher at Skeena Junior Secondary School. He further served as a Classroom Teacher at Skeena Junior Secondary and Uplands Elementary Schools. After assuming a brief administrative position with School District No. 33 (Chilliwack), Dave returned to the school district as Principal of Copper Mountain Elementary School. He then assumed the position of Principal at Thornhill Junior Secondary School as well as the Lakelse Junior High and Teen Learning Centre Alternate Program. In the fall of 2003, Dave transitioned to the principalship position at the newly rebuilt Skeena Junior Secondary School. Most recently, Dave has held the position of Director of Instruction for Learner Support and served as a member of the District Education Team.

Coast Mountains School District is extremely grateful for Dave’s long-term service, his many significant contributions to the school district and the dedication that he has provided over his twenty-eight years of service. His positive focus, compassionate approach, strong sense of community and productive interactions with students and staff that he consistently brought to all matters is commended. Under Dave’s guidance and vision, the Learner Support Department operated with the foundational inclusion belief that “all means all”, in seeking to meet the needs of our diverse and unique student population.

The school district is now actively seeking a new Director of Instruction for Learner Support and will conduct a Canada wide search beginning next week.

Our very best wishes are extended to Dave and his family in their future endeavors.

Katherine McIntosh
Superintendent of Schools
